[TAF-lista] TAF medlemsmøte onsdag 15/2: Nordlysstudier på Svalbard

På onsdag om en uke vil TAF-medlem Marie-Andrée Dumais fortelle om observasjoner av nordlyset som hun gjorde på Kjell Henriksen-observatoriet på Svalbard i november, som en del av doktorgradsstudiet sitt. Foredraget blir på Engelsk.

   Sammendrag:
   With the long dark season and mild winter temperature, Svalbard is a perfect
   location to observe the so-called dayside aurora. Located near Longyearbyen,
   the Kjell Henriksen Observatory (KHO) hosts more than 25 optical instruments
   and few more non-optical instruments and is dedicated to auroral research.
   KHO is operated by a UNIS research group and the Birkeland Center for Space
   Science.

   Along with KHO, SuperDARN and EISCAT radar are regularly scanning the sky to
   unveil the aurora mysteries. The facilities are open to research scientist from
   all over and to Geophysics students at UNIS. Last November, I had the chance to
   participate to course (Polar Magnetospheric Substorms) at UNIS and visit the
   facilities. The presentation will present an overview of the facilities and the
   research conducted on Svalbard.
